Welcome to You are the Milk! Thank you for visiting us and supporting this project.
I’m Marta, mum of a beautiful (and very active!) girl. I studied a 4-year nursing degree in Spain, where I was born and lived until we moved to the UK. We were looking for an exciting change, personal learning and job development opportunities. We definitely found that! I have been working as a paediatric nurse in a children’s hospital in the UK pretty much since we arrived. After maternity leave I returned to work part-time so that I could see my little one growing and learning every day.
As a paediatric nurse I continuously look after many newborns, babies and toddlers. I’m passionate about my job. I love it. It’s very demanding to look after little ones and their families but it can be extremely rewarding.
I always wanted to be a mum but I didn’t know I would fall in love with the journey of motherhood. Not only the positive and happy moments but also what you learn from all those tricky, at-your-wits-end, tough stages. There’s so many ups and down as the little ones grow, but we keep learning about each other and evolving. The magic part is to continue growing together.
The mission of You are the Milk is to share useful, up-to-date information with other parents (and parents-to-be) about pregnancy, birth, newborn and postpartum, babies and toddlers. I strongly believe in this:
One generation full of deeply loving parents would change the brain of the next generation, and with that, the world.
Dr. Charles Raison
In Spanish ‘you are the milk’ means ‘you are the best’. Because let’s be honest: parenthood is hard-work! We do it as best as we can. And that’s enough! There’s no such thing as perfect parents so we can only be real ones.
As a paediatric nurse I also wanted to honour with You are the Milk all the different ways of feeding your baby. Whether you breastfeed, bottle feed, feed enterally (via nasogastric tube, nasojejunal tube, gastrostomy, jejunostomy) or any other way. Whether you express your milk or use formula. You are the one that feeds your baby. You are their source of milk. And because of that, they love you.
